The Silk Sector

India produced 42,033 MT of raw silk in 2025-26 — an all-time high, a sixth consecutive year of growth, and 2.2 % above 2024-25. Muga and eri, the two silks in this institute’s mandate, account for 8,015 MT of that: eri is the second largest silk in the country by volume, muga the smallest and the most valuable per kilogram.
