Takes eri culture into the castor-growing districts of Uttar Pradesh. Like Begusarai and Ahmedabad, this is non-traditional territory — the case for ericulture here rests on castor already being grown for oilseed, so the leaf is a by-product a household is not otherwise using.

Where castor is grown for oilseed and leaf together, harvesting must be held
to 25–30 % per plant, which cuts usable leaf from 12,000 to about
3,600 kg per hectare. DFL numbers have to be planned against the harvesting
regime, not the gross yield.
